Cinemark drops movie ticket prices

SPRINGFIELD — I hate spending $17 dollars to go to a movie.

Imagine our surprise when my wife and I showed up at the Gateway Mall Cinemark 17 and discovered the theater had lowered its ticket prices to $6 apiece.

Cinemark theaters throughout Oregon have lowered their admission fees. Check out the theater chain’s website to see if a Cinemark in your area is offering discounted rates.

In Springfield, it’s only $6 to go to a first-run movie, and just $4 dollars if you hit the matinee. And the Cinemark 12 theater, on the front side of Gateway Mall, has second-run movies — films that have already been out in theaters for a while — for just $1.75 per ticket.

Staff at Cinemark 17 told me their ticket sales have nearly tripled since implementing the new prices earlier this month, and that was without an advertising campaign to promote the new prices.

So, no more $8.50 at Valley River Center’s Regal Stadium 15 theater, when I can spend $6 at Cinemark in Springfield.

Sorry Regal, but someone needs to inform you we are in a recession.
